If I asked you, Who are you and why are you here? You would probably tell me you name, and maybe tell me what your job is. But, it takes a deeper reflection you find out who you really are.
Our world today has one great irony that is mind boggling. The majority of people are trying very hard to conform to what someone else wants them to be. And it happens so subtly that we fail to realize that is what’s happening.
We’re constantly being told what other people think we are, that’s why it’s so important to know yourself deeply.
This happens at many levels, the television bombards us with images of how we should look and dress, what we should eat or drink, even what vehicle to drive. If you think about it’s all most like psychological warfare. They are powerful words, and images to change how you think and act.
If we look around us for the things that will help us define who we are. In fact the majority of people have I sense of identity apart from the clothing they wear, the car they drive, where they live, or even to they are married,
If you were stripped of everything you own and left on a island away from everything that you think defines, would you still have a clear sense of who you are or what defines you?
Our body’s are not who you really are. At the core of it, you are more than that. Maybe that’s why it is so hard for people to fully understand and appreciate who they are.
The concept of self in the true form is something that goes beyond you physical bodies and senses. We are complex beings. We cannot be defined by the things we surround ourselves with, but the things within us. If you think about human beings in essence we are all essentially the same. It is our thoughts and experiences that differentiate us.
Our true identity lies within us, not outside of us. We should define who we are based on our thoughts, values, principles, and beliefs. It’s ok at to have material things but they should not be our sense of self.
Material things are there to help us make life easier. If we rely on them, and lost everything today that would change who you are as a person. You would still be you,
So, what’s the importance of all of this, you might ask?
The greatest difficulty is that men do not think enough of themselves, do not consider what it is they are sacrificing when they follow the herd, or when the cater for the establishment.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
I think this quote represents all people.
So, are you sacrificing when you go through life blindly conforming to everything. Do you sacrifice your true potential and purpose.
Look within yourself not out, everything begins and ends with our thoughts. Our perspective.
A man named Sidney Harris says, “ninety percent of the world woe comes from people not knowing themselves, their abilities, their frailties, or even their own virtues. Most people go almost all the way through life as complete strangers to themselves.
Many people lack an understanding of who they are, without which they are unable to know what they are capable of achieving in life.
“When you know yourself you are empowered. When you accept yourself you are invincible.“ Tina Lifford
