What would your life be like without music?

I’m pretty sure my brain would suffer without music. Music can have a wide range of effects on our brains. It impacts everything from cognitive performance to stress levels.

Music triggers a release of the feel good hormone dopamine. It’s boosts our cognitive function and potentially relieves anxiety and stress along with helping us stay focused. It activates our limbic system which is responsible for emotions.

I’m sure all of us realize that different types of music have different effects on us. It has a different effect on our brains. For example if you listen to up beat music it can light up neural networks that store positive and personal memories. Which is the sort of information that gets blocked during bouts of depression and listening to up beat music stimulates problem solving skills, and adaptive, positive behavioral repertoires.
