I believe the most important invention of my lifetime has to be Coronary Bypass Surgery.
In 1967 Rene Favaloro performed the first coronary bypass surgery, taking a length of vein from the leg and graphing it onto the coronary artery.
This allows blood to flow around the blocked section. In part the advances, the number of deaths from heart disease can be decreased by 50%.
