Activating your spiritual senses to the Holy Spirit isn’t about just flipping a switch -it’s more like tuning a radio. If we’ve been born again the signal is already there, the goal is to quiet the noise and learn to recognize it.
I believe we can’t tune into the Holy Spirit if we don’t have “fear of the Lord.” There are some tested ways that many people use to deepen their awareness of the Holy Spirit.
- Start with Stillness and Surrender
The Holy Spirit is often described as a “still small voice.” 1 Kings 19:12 says, “After the earthquake a fire passed, but the Lord was not in the fire. After the fire, there was a still small voice.” If our minds are constantly busy, it’s hard to notice His voice.
Set some quiet time daily, even if it’s 10-15 minutes a day. Sit in silence and invite the Holy Spirit to speak. We will never be able to hear the Holy Spirit’s voice, if we don’t let go of our control, and be open, hearing Him isn’t forceful.
2. Read and Meditate on God’s Word
The Holy Spirit only speaks in alignment with God. John 14: 16 is a good scripture to focus on:

The book of Acts speaks of the early church being led by the Holy Spirit. We just can’t read the Bible, we have to pause and reflect. Ask ourselves what stood out and why. In John Bevere’s book “Drawing Near to God, He says, when he doesn’t understand something, he asks the Lord “to help his understanding
3. Practice Prayer as a Two-Way Conversation
Instead of only speaking, begin to listen. Pay attention. to impressions, thoughts, and convictions that follow. We need to test our senses -does it align with love, truth, and peace?
My pastor always says, “If I ask you in the parking lot what you heard today, “What would you answer?”
4. Develop Spiritual Discernment
Not every feeling or thought is from the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit’s guidance is typically: Peaceful, not chaotic, convicting, not condemning, loving not fearful. We can compare what we sent was teaching in the Bible.
5. Cultivate Obedience
Someone once said to me something that has stood with me through the years, “You can’t expect God’s blessings and guidance if you’re living in sin and disobedience.”
Sensitivity grows when we act on what we believe God is prompting. Start today with kindness, honesty, and forgiveness. Notice how obedience increases your clarity over time.
6. Remove the Spiritual Noise
Certain habits, dull, our spiritual awareness. It’s important to limit our distractions, like social media noise, and overstimulation. Addressing ongoing sin in our lives as well as our inner conflicts. We have to practice fasting from distractions like worldly news or even food.
7. Stay in Cummunity
Spiritual growth is never meant to isolate us. Group groups can often help us become accountable to our actions. And learning from a Bible believing leader, can teach us how to live. Being in a group and sharing experiences and test our discernment.
8. Look for Fruit, Not Just a feeling
The clearest sign of the Holy Spirit isn’t a dramatic experience -it’s transformation.
Look for growth in love, joy, and peace. Galatians 5:22-23 tells us,

We need to keep a grounded perspective. It’s important to stay balanced. Deep Spiritual sensitivity, shouldn’t pour us away from reality, or lead us to make impulsive decisions. If something feels extreme, confusing, or overwhelming, it’s wise to pause, reflects, and seek godly counsel.
The times we are living in, requires us to be in our “spirit man” to perceive divine realities through prayer, reading the Bible meditating on God‘s words, and cultivate our spiritual senses.
I think the key is actionable approach and engaging in open-mindedness. By visualizing scriptures they can become a living reality, to help our inner witnesses. That involves moving beyond our natural site and sound to hear God‘s voice.
Duncan Williams was known as the “Apostle of Stratgic Prayer and a founder of Action Chapel international stated, “You need to sensitize prophetic senses because spirits are stronger than flesh and blood. Feed your spirit, not your flesh.”
