I learned something that is a bit of useless information, but I found it interesting. The term narcissist originates from the Greek myth of Narcissus, a stunningly beautiful hunter and son of a river god and nymph, who was cursed by the goddess Nemesis to fall in love with his own reflection in a pool. He became obsessed with his own image, unable to leave, and eventually withered away.
In his demise, he was unable to possess his own reflection, Narcissus died of obsession and sorrow. In his place grew the Narcissus flower, often found blooming near water.

Sigmund Freud incorporated the Greek myth of Narcissus into psychoanalytic theory to define narcissism as a libidinal investment in the ego rather than in external objects.
