Prayer affects people who use it in different ways. Prayer offers practical, emotional, and spiritual benefits. It provides a dedicated time of silence, stillness, and presence tohelp process emotion.
Prayer uniquely transforms our lives not just by what we receive, but what we leave behind. The true loss in prayer is letting go of spiritual burdens, and gaining the positive, internal transformation that follows.
Rather than earning material things, prayer ships away negative, internal habits and emotional baggage that hinder personal growth.
What we lose:
Ego and Pride: Dropping the need to be the center of attention or always be right.
Anger and Resentment: Releasing the desire to harbor grudges or snap at others.
Greed and Insecurity: Losing the emptiness and fear of scarcity that causes anxiety over material possessions.
Despair and Shame: Letting go of the weight of past failures, discouragement, and the fear of death.
What we gain:
When these heavy burdens are lost, they are replaced with profound, spiritual and mental benefits.
The gains of a consistent prayer life include:
Peace and Stillness: Fostering a calm refuge from a racing mind and a noisy world.
Compassion and Generosity: Replacing ego and greed with an outward focus and gratitude for others.
Better Perspective: Helping problems feel much smaller when compared to the divine nature of God.
Hope: Maintaining an enduring optimism and strength, regardless of our circumstances.
I have not lost anything from choosing to follow Jesus. It has caused liberation from the bondage to sin, anxiety, and self-centredness. True freedom is found by aligning with God’s design.
