When You Walk Through Fire

“ When you pass through the waters, I will be you, and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you” -Isaiah 43:2

When hard seasons hit us our first instinct is usually to ask why the heat is so intense. We wonder why the diagnosis came, why the relationship failed, or why the financial pressure feels heavier than our shoulders can bear. We often live with the quiet assumption that if we are faithful to God, the road should be smooth and the fire should stay away.

God didn’t say, “If you walk through the fire.” He said, “When you walk through the fire.”

He never promised, we would be free from pain, pressure, or trial. He promised that’s something infinitely better: His unshakable, active presence right in the middle of it.

Think back to the fiery furnace in the book of Daniel. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stood firm for their faith, and they were cast into a blazing fire. The king expected the flames to destroy them. Instead, he looked inside and asked in astonishment.: “ Didn’t we tie up three men and throw them into the fire?” Yet he saw four men walking around loose and unharmed, and the apparent of the fourth was like the son of the gods.

God didn’t stop the king from throwing them in. Instead, he stepped into the furnace with them.

That same truth applies to our lives today. Whatever heat we are walking through does not mean God has abandoned us. It means He is right there beside us. The fire is not meant to destroy us; it is meant to refine us, strip away fear, and teach us that His grace is greater than any fire we could walk through. We are not called to build a home in the seasons of the fire, and we will not be consumed by it. We simply have to pass through, and we are never walking alone
