Obedience, is a knowledge of truth to the greatest questions that comes to us.
It’s not a surprise that Obedience is the first law of heaven. From Genesis to Revelation the Bible has a lot to say about obedience. The account of the Ten Commandments show us just how important the concept of obedience is to God.
When we have obedience toward God we will be blessed. If we disobey then you will be cursed. The concept in simple, it’s not a coincidence that this happens to hold true on earth too.
Through Jesus we learn that we are called to a life of obedience. One of the Greek term for obedience in the Bible conveys the idea of positioning yourself under someone by submitting the their authority and command.
Another Greek word for obey written in the Bible means “to trust.”
The true meaning of obedience involves the physical hearing that inspires the hearer, and a trust that in turn motivates the hearer to act in accordance with someone’s desires.
Biblical obedience means to hear, trust, submit and surrender to God and His word.
Jesus is the perfect example of obedience. Our motivation for obedience is love.
If you love me, you will keep my commandmentsJohn 14:15
Obedience Is An Act Of Worship
While the Bible places a strong emphasis on obedience, it’s critical to remember that we are not justified, we are made righteous by obedience. Salvation is a free gift of God, and we can do nothing to be worthy of salvation. While it is true obedience flows from a heart of gratitude for the grace we have received from the Lord.
Dear bothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to Gods, which is your spiritual serviceRomans 12:1
We are not to be conformed to this world by allowing us to be transformed in our mind. We are to keep renewing our minds so that we prove what is good, and we’ll-pleasing and in perfect will of God.
God Rewards Obedience
Over and over again in the Bible it says that God rewards obedience.
And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed – all because you have obeyed me.Genesis 22:18
Jesus replied, But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.Luke 11:28
But, be doers of the word, and not hearers only. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer they deceive themselves, it it like a man who looks at himself and goes away at once and forgets what he was like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues init – not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it – they will be blessed in what they do,James 1:22-25
Obedience Proves Our Love For God
Both the books of John (1 and 2), clearly explain that obedience to God demonstrates love for God. Loving God implies following His commands.
By this we know that we love the children of God and obey His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments.1 John 5:2-3
Love means doing what God has commanded us,and He has commanded us to love one another, just as you heard in the commandments from the beginning.
And this is love, that we walk in obedience to His commands. As you have heard from the beginning. His command is that you walk in love2 John 6
Obedience To God Demonstrates Faith
When we obey God, we show our trust and faith in Him.
If someone claims,”I know Him well!’ But doesn’t keep His commands he’s a liar. His life doesn’t match his words. But One who keeps God’s word is a person in who we see God’s mature love. This is the only way to be sure we’re in God. Anyone who claims to be intimate with God ought to live the same kind of life Jesus lived1 John 2 4-6 The msg
Obedience Is Better Than Sacrifice
The phrase “obedience is better than sacrifice, “ can often confuse believers. It can only be understood from an Old Testament perspective. The law required The Israelites to offer sacrifices to God, but those sacrifices and offering were never intended to take the place of obedience.
Then Samual said, Do you think all God wants is sacrifices – empty rituals just for show? He wants us to listen to Him! Plain listening is the thing, not staging a lavish religious production. Not doing what God tell you is far worse than fooling around in the occult. Getting self-important around God is far worse than making deals with your dead ancestors. Because you said No to God’s command, He says No to your kingship.Samuel 15:22-23 The Msg
Disobedience Leads To Sin And Death
The disobedience of Adam brought sin and death to the works. This is the basis of the term “original sin.” But Christ’s perfect obedience restores fellowship with God for everyone who believes in Him.
