Spiritual Blindness

Life can be seen as a rich and exciting adventure, but where we’re headed on the journey depends on our spiritual sight. Having vision in the physical real. Is what many people associate with the word “sight,” but spiritual vision is on a completely different level. Most people drift along not even aware that they are spiritually blind, which is a tragedy.

Spiritual blindness is a lack of understanding what Jesus made available to all of us by faith. We will never have that kind of knowledge until we are born again, but even born-again believers can remain blind without constantly studying and meditating on the Word of God. Jesus is the only One who can open our blind eyes, and through His grace He gives us spiritual insight.

Have you ever wondered “Why don’t they see what’s right in plain view?” Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the Bible is blessed.” Insight from God gives us the spiritual discernment and wisdom to realize that there is no way we can always make the right call in every sit on our own, we need guidance from the Holy Spirit to do that.

The world doesn’t know God, and therefore has no such discernment to make wise decisions. The level of a person’s spiritual knowledge determines how they respond to situations, and most people respond to the moment rather than by faith. Failing to believe in the power of what Jesus did through His death and resurrection keeps us spiritually blind.

People who refuse to believe in God have been blinded. They are unable to see the light of the Good News. John 12:40 says, “He blinded their eyes and He hardened their heart, so that they would not see with their eyes and perceive with their heart, and be converted and I heal them. In other words unless people open their hearts, they will remain spiritually blind.

In order to receive the spiritual vision people must move away from performance- based religion. The majority of churches teach the “do good, get good” philosophy. The majority of churches rely on performance preaching, lights, music, and entertainment to get people to come to enter churches. It’s about the quantity and how much money they can get out of the people. It’s not about God. Many preachers have a “I will tell them what they want to hear and they will keep coming back attitude. We have preacher who keep people spiritually blinded. That is not who God or His Word is.

Spiritual insight from God keeps us from blundering along making bad decisions that aren’t in our best interest. Look at the mess society is in today. God is the only one who had our best interests at heart.

We have to be careful to not let our pride get in the way of asking Him for help. When we insist on choosing our own path in life, we can end up in a place we don’t want to be.

Proverbs 14:12 (NIV), says, “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death. Jesus opens our eyes of our spiritual understanding, removes the veil of ignorance from our minds, and allows us to see things invisible on the physical level.

Seeing Jesus for who He is, instead of who the world says He is, takes life to a whole new level.
